Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
We, at Driffield Junior School, are committed to enabling all children to access a broad and balanced curriculum and take part in all aspects of school life including those with special educational need. We strive to ensure that all children are safe and healthy, enjoy their education and make clear progress.
The school supports this aim by:
- Planning curriculum delivery to meet the needs of all pupils by considering different learning styles and differentiating tasks.
- Identifying barriers to learning and participation
- Working with parents or carers to identify and meet children’s needs.
- Assessing children’s needs by testing and observation.
- Providing staff with appropriate special educational needs training and information.
- Monitoring children’s progress using learning plans (reviewed three times a year)
- Working in co-operation with the Local Authority and other agencies.
- Seeking advice and support from outside experts as appropriate.
- Involving children and parents in planning support, target setting and reviewing progress.

ELSA
We have three qualified Emotional Literacy Support Assistants at Driffield Junior School. Mrs Riby, Mrs Pope and Miss Clarke have been trained by Educational Psychologists to plan and deliver programmes of support to pupils who are experiencing temporary or longer term additional emotional needs. The majority of ELSA work is delivered on an individual basis, but occasionally, some group work is more appropriate, especially in the areas of social and friendship skills.
