Curriculum

Children and adults at DJS really enjoy coming to school. Teachers work hard to make the curriculum enjoyable and children are always encouraged to do their personal best.

The love of reading is a specific focus across the school and children of all ages are encouraged to read a variety of materials at home and at school.

To quote Dr. Seus, “The more you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.”

As well as a whole school focus on reading, the school continues to focus on the four operations, knowledge of number bonds and multiplication and division facts. The children are encouraged to learn their number facts and do really well!

Science, wherever possible, is taught through a hands-on approach and our children are encouraged to experiment and discover as much as possible for themselves. Teachers try to make all lessons, across the curriculum, as interesting as possible and make every effort to make all curriculum areas child-friendly and skills based.
